Proposed Change in
Zoning: On December 11 board members
and residents attended an informational meeting conducted at the Library
Center by Lee Engineering regarding the proposed
rezoning of property from residential to multi-family (apartments) at 4346 S.
Kansas, (a track of land that is at the southwest
corner of our common ground). The proposed plan is to build four large
apartment buildings totaling 91 apartments. Kansas Street
is one block east of the proposed extension of Kansas Expressway (Highway 13)
south to Nixa and it is one block west of our Quail Creek Avenue
exit to Republic Road. Following the meeting President Gaye Lee sent a
letter to Ralph Manley, City Councilman for our area and a copy to Daniel Neal,
Senior Planner, Department of Planning & Development, P.O. Box 8368,
Springfield, MO 65801 expressing concern regarding the proposed change in
zoning and the traffic that would be generated by it. There is no traffic
light and congestion is
prevalent.
A letter received December
23 from Daniel Neal stated that The Springfield Planning and Zoning Commission will
hold a public hearing on January 11, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. in City Council
Chambers, third floor of City Hall, 830 Boonville. This hearing for
Planned Development 315 will be to consider this request to rezone from a R-SF, Single Family Residential District to a PD, Planned
Development District. This hearing is the first step in the process of
rezoning the property. After the public hearing, Commission will make a
recommendation to City Council. Council will then hold its own public hearing
and take final action. Anyone may attend and speak at any public hearing.
Board
members plan to attend the public hearing; and feel that it is important that
all homeowners be made aware of this proposed change in zoning, and if you wish
to express an opinion regarding Planned Development No. 315, please feel free
to provide written or verbal comments to Daniel Neal (864-1611) by 5:00 p.m.
December 29, 2006 Your comments will be included in the report to
the Planning and Zoning Commission.
REMINDER: The annual neighborhood meeting is scheduled
for March 6, 2007 at the Library
Center
on South Campbell at
7:00 p.m. Please mark your calendar. We’ll be voting on volunteers
who would like to serve on next year’s Board. There will also be sign up
sheets to serve on the various committees. Please contact a Board member
if interested in serving Quail Creek.
